Sums up the "no kings" protest movement. So toothless that it cannot even organise itself on decentralised non-corporate owned SM and their response is to bleat "but why won't they play nice?"

When Meta finally responded, the company reportedly acknowledged that it had made a “bad call.”

TIL “bad call” is how Meta says “fuck you, sue us lol”

There is a part of me that wants to tell them that this is what they get for relying on those platforms, and they should have been seeding their message on independent platforms such as Mastodon, matrix, and/or Lemmy this whole time. an effective backstop is always the first step forward after a set back.

Except this is the only post I've seen about No Kings on lemmy this morning and I had to search for it on Bluesky. Maybe the problems are beyond the corporate media or maybe the revolution will not be televised...

I have been seeing posts about an upcoming No Kings protest for at least a week.

On Lemmy, your experience is what you choose

The shame belongs squarely to Meta, not the protest organizers. Remember who is the real enemy. (Hint: not the protesters)

When you need to get your message to all the people, you don’t get to be picky about the platform.

Yes, these people should also be on Mastodon and Lemmy and PieFed and NextDoor and Facebook and Instagram and TikTok and Craigslist and Loops and whatever else is out there.

Weird that it's cool when they use their algorithms to push narratives, and don't ban certain topics to the point it causes revolutions and dictators get installed after in parts of Africa and south America.

No Kings can't even bring itself to demand Trump's impeachment and yet even still they are too "leftwing" not to be censored???

Hey, so, he's been impeached twice, for obstruction of congress and abuse of power, as well as Inciting an Insurrection; and nothing came of it. What exactly are we expecting another impeachment to do, exactly?

Is it about harm reduction? Cause I'd see the point there, if the act of impeachment didn't come off as useless in the face of Trump.

“Impeached” basically only means he was formally charged. If Congress doesn’t actually find the impeached person guilty, then the impeachment doesn’t mean shit.

That’s one of the reasons Republicans are so desperate to maintain control of the House and Senate. If they don’t, future impeachments might actually have - gasp! - consequences that matter.

For the senate to convict an impeached president requires a ⅔ supermajority.

Like hopefully this election will break the trifecta and maybe even return both chambers of congress to the Dems, but a senate supermajority would basically require a miracle.

The reason is because the American people want impeachment and No Kings betrays us all by pretending that is too radical for us or impossible.

Just make local fliers and put them around your city and to local businesses that will let you. Go old school dumbasses.

That's what we've been doing for our rural town's group. The problem we keep running into is that the fliers keep getting taken down, and we don't have the money to keep replacing them.

I argued hard against setting up as a Facebook group and volunteered webspace for our own site instead, but I keep hearing complaints at the meetings that our emails aren't reaching them, and they always suggest that we use Facebook or X instead. We aren't getting a lot of bounce messages, so it's either getting lost in the spam box, or people aren't reading the emails, and I'm not sure how to fix that.

I was an organizer for Indivisible last year, but since been jaded.

I wonder if next time hosting a matrix server would work? Have a QR code on the fliers.

It's worth a shot, but I wouldn't have high hopes. Getting people on Signal was hard enough, and that's literally just downloading an app. I am the techiest person in the group though, so maybe you'd have better luck in a non-rural area. It's a low-income area, so the schools aren't the best.

We've had decent luck with small regional newspapers doing an article about us, so that might be another option you could look into?

I did a few interviews for the local npr station and a few people heard. Honestly the thing that sucked was most people who showed up, were from my reddit posts. Even the much older people. I no longer use reddit.
