I know Nolan's Batman is fascist propaganda, but I find it funny that Afred told a whole story about a man robbing and throwing away the precious stones that the British (Alfred included) were gonna use to bribe his tribe leaders.

Then Alfred's whole conclusion was that man was simply doing it for no rhyme or reason, just to "watch the whole world burn". And also "oh, and we burned the forest down to catch him."

And Bruce doesn't even question it??

Nolan Batman movies are textbook examples of gaslighting.

Everyone says they're good but then you sit down and watch one and it's goofball city for 2 hrs.

Saw a recent review roasting The Dark Knight and it was both poignant and funny.

I think The Dark Knight is a shitty attempt at a Christ allegory by Nolan.

Harvey Dent was the "symbol" of the city (why the hell would a city have a person as a symbol in the first place), who was corrupted by the "devil" (Joker), then he committed evil by murdering people.

So good "Christ" (Batman) took the blame for Harvey's evils so city could be redeemed of crime (through extended powers to the police ofc)

Wow, I just looked up the clip cause it's been so long since I watched that scene and WTF even is that anecdote. Colonizer like, "We tried to bribe this guy into being a comprador and he didn't go for it??? Guess he wants to watch the world burn. He is forcing me to do this. Lights forest on fire."

It also adds a weird dimension to Alfred's character that raises a lot of questions. Was he working for British intelligence back then? Why would he go from that to being a butler for some billionaire?

Was he working for British intelligence back then?

In most iterations, yes. Afred is almost always an ex-British intelligence agent.

Why would he go from that to being a butler for some billionaire?

Working for billionaires -> Working for the billionaire (the richest one).

Tbf, I wouldn't be surprised if he was working for the Waynes to keep tabs on them in behalf of the British intelligence. Afred also knew how to get Batman's gadgets from other markets without getting government attention, which is sus af.
