But why? Would does one gain by changing the dog?

  • The group that shared the image (in the original post) is called "Corgi Club." They can't post a pug to the Corgi Club.

Though whether it was changed for the sake of the club, or it was changed previously but then shared by the club, who knows?

Pug is cuter too (I'm biased). Pug will definitely lick anything within licking distance.

Don't encourage the perpetration of inbreeding so bad that it causes serious health issues. Pugs can barely breathe ffs.

Don't make assumptions. I'm an active advocate in the retropug movement to fix this very issue.

If you are serious I can make recommendations.

Moderately interested. I live in an apartment and I've always said that I wouldn't get a dog unless I had a yard. However that possibility seems to be vanishing so I might need to make concessions

Pugs at least are small and my apartment is big enough it could have zoomies. If there was an opportunity to adopt one I'd have a very hard time saying no. I'm in the Pacific Northwest if you know of anyone out this way, I can at least look them up

(The thought of laying in bed cozy with a sleepy pup is making my heart melt. I haven't had a dog for many years now and I very much miss having one)

In general the US is not great with retropug breeding. The AKC is a perpetrator of brachycephaly. In the US there are some cross bred mutt retropugs though. The most serious purebred retropugs (look up retromops, you'll get more hits) are primarily from Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. Some breeders will even deliver them to you. Therese Rodin is one of the more vocal advocates and she can help you. She has even made a few recommendations for one off breeders in the US. Supporting a true retromop breeder is a great thing, but it will be an expensive endeavor from the US. There are some pug rescues though - not a lot, but they exist. This will likely lead to a more traditional pug but you're not directly supporting a bad breeder, you're just helping out an animal that was the victim of irresponsible breeding and that's an honorable thing. True retromops with nice healthy snouts tend to be quite active and while they will lounge around your place, they'll also need a lot more regular exercise than a sleepy AKC standard pug. Pugs are amazing dogs, ever day you can come home to an animal that will act like he's seeing his very best friend after being apart for years. If you are looking at breeders, ask about the BOAS scoring of the dog's parents - you want 0 or 1 and you'll want to look at the parents with mature snouts and make sure they don't look too flat-faced. The snout on the puppy is usually pretty obvious as well.

    Incredible reply, thank you!

I did notice a derth of retropug programs in the US as I've looked them up over the years. It seems I'll need to wait on a healthy-snouted pug. I'm a big proponent of adoption; when the time's right I'll start looking

Good luck! Dogs are like kids though, even the weird ugly ones will bring you joy. If a pug isn't in the cards soon, look for a different apartment friendly rescue and later a retropug could become it's adopted sibling perhaps - they tend to get along very well with other dogs!

Unfortunately the cat distribution system is trying very hard to put one in my life, but I have birds and that just wouldn't be fair to either

If the dog distribution network worked the same I'd be set
