IMHO Not all kids have same attention in a full classroom. Homework I think gives them critical thinking time on their own. I think homework is essential. There must have been research put in I am sure.

    For me, I liked homework that directly helped me on the exams and quizzes. One class was awesome in that it would give maybe 10 questions for homework and there was a high likelihood of a quiz every class. But the quiz was guaranteed to be that same homework just with different variables so you had to recalculate it. And before the quiz he would ask if anyone had any difficulties on any question so we could review it.
