As a EV driver, all the money you save on gas, save it for tires.

Drive responsibly and don't get fooled by marketing. Your EV is not more expensive on tires than a gas car or SUV.

Regardless of driving habits, they are heavier duty because EVs are heavier, so they are slightly more expensive.
All things equal they shouldnt wear any quicker than a non-ev tyre, just a little more to replace.

No not really, the tires I buy are for passenger cars of all types, and I only change tires after a season is over. Over the lifetime of the car, it happens to be the same number of tires changes.

Heavier vehicles do wear tires quicker though. Tires on a heavier vehicle that can easily spin the tires from a standstill every single time moreso.

And batteries are still heavy as fuck.

My EV is much lighter that any SUV or half ton I see and in 4 years, I haven't spun my tires once. But keep slurring EVs tho, you fit right in with the hundreds of other tries I've seen over the last 10 years.

BMW 5 series diesel 1935 KG empty, i5 2235 KG empty.

Mercedes GLC diesel 2115 KG empty, EQC 2545 KG empty (Admittedly a tiny bit longer than the GLC, otherwise based on the same platform, same width)

Show me which EV with a properly sized battery is lighter than its equivalent ICE counterpart.

I haven't spun my tires once.

Means you aren't driving, you're commuting.

Well good for you that your experience with replacing a gas car with a EV car doesn't cost you more in tires. That's not my experience and not the experience of others and yes I spend a more on tires than the ICE car, not SUV, car that I replaced with the same driving habits.

The experience of others is the same as mine. Tires are worn down by high acceleration and weight, not electricity. That means your driving habits and the weight of your vehicle. Now go drive safely.

No one was saying it's about electricity causing tires to wear down faster there sherlock.

You bought expensive "EV" tires, and they wore out early and you bought the same shit again. They saw you coming.

And you're here online literally claiming it's because it's an EV, and you're getting mad at someone for pointing out that it's weight and acceleration, not electricity that wears out tyres.

    And you bought a WankPanzerMobile.

The V8 Mustang weighs between 3500lbs-4000lbs and the Tesla Model 3 weighs between 3500lbs-4000lbs.

You either got a heavier model, or you use that electric acceleration more, or you bought gimmicky tires that wear out faster based on some marketing that clearly fooled you into thinking that magically the driving force behind the wheels turning somehow changes the physics between a car, it's tyres and the road.

You should be ashamed that you're repeating this marketing crap on the internet, and you should go to a different tyre stop and take your wife with you out someone else who won't fall for the marketing bullshit.

You were duped. Buy less gimmicky tires. It's a car, and electricity isn't magic even if it feels like it is.

Sigh, one last reply before I block you and the rest of this community.

the 2008 V8 manual Mustang's rated curb weight is 3,483 and the 2018 Model 3 LR is at 3,891, again as my other post stated, they're roughly equivalent, M3 a bit more and again, PERSONAL EXPERIENCE between the two is that tires that were equivalent Pirelli non "EV Rated" and with equivalent driving styles, the EV just did not last as long and that increased the cost FOR TIRES.

Nowhere did I state you should by "gimmicky" tires as you say and endorsing them, that's you making a straw man argument.

Fuck, I've forgotten how Internet EV owners on the internet can be absolutely insufferable.

It's the extra weight or the extra acceleration or the different tyres. It can't be the electricity, as you admitted elsewhere.

Put it in eco mode, drive less aggressively, get a lighter car or buy harder tyres, or of you don't want that, then buy tyres more frequently because you adore the acceleration. (I sure do.) And you're still saving on pollution and money over a fossil fuel car.

But I don't go through tyres like you do and I don't completion about my car letting me zoom to my heart's content.

It's possible to drive an EV calmly and enjoy the smooth efficiency, which is another thing I like to do.

EVs are slightly heavier than visually similarly sized ICE vehicles. They also tend to have significantly higher torque from a stopped position, so those who like to mash the throttle with a heavier foot might experience much faster wear than they're used to.

But drive it like normal and they should basically still last 90% as long as tires on a similarly specced ICE vehicle.

I went from a V8 mustang to the model 3 so they're fairly close to the same weight class, model 3 still weights a bit more, and similar type of acceleration and course my driving is going to be the same in both. I went from 40 -45K miles between tire changes to 25K -30K between changes with similar Pirelli tires and a early "EV rated" tires, which were more expensive than even the Pirelli's.

That's been my experience with my EV so far but even with the tires, it's still better than ICE for the most part.

Wow, you fell for the marketing "EV" tyres and then when the expensive gimmick tyres didn't last you let the salesman convince you it was the electric motor that did it!

I went with the "EV rated" tires because at that point I was willing to try something different after having two sets of tires that lasted less than 25K out of a 50K rated tire that lasted 15K longer on a similar car and surprisingly that "EV rated" tire did last a bit longer than the stock or Perilli's even though the ride was not great.

Jesus fucking christ, apparently people in this sub have no reading comprehension skills and like to just piss on anything that's not in praise of everything EV with strawman arguments.

You can't have it both ways. Either the tyres are worse or the weight is more or your driving has more acceleration than it used to be with your gas guzzler.

I'm calling bullshit on it being anything other than tyres, weight and/or driving style. That delicious electric acceleration is a delight from the off, as I know very well, and I'd be sceptical indeed if someone who previously chose a V8 Mustang claimed that they didn't indulge in it a lot.

Now that your EV is giving you so much razz, your tyres are wearing out more. If you want to save money on tyres, put it in whatever economy mode it has and go gently away from the lights. Or have the fun and but new tyres more. But don't blame the car for giving you the acceleration you enjoy, and don't blame the electricity for wearing out the tyres!

This is so interesting. I'm a slow and cautious EV driver with an older 1T Minicab-MiEV which runs light truck tyres. My hoon friends look aghast and would never drive such a dinky car. It weighs less than half a standard ICE ute. But I've been told my tyres need changing after only around 20k-30k km. Minicabs do have tiny tyres and I do more highway than city driving, so that is likely part of the equation, but it could be that there really is something more to this that EVs run through tyres faster, and not just because of weight. Which sucks as particulates in the environment are often from tyre wear 😞

EV tires are meant to optimize for lower rolling resistance over anything else to reduce energy usage and ideally road noise. Lasting longer or having more grip is a secondary concern.

You can get tires that last much longer, but then you'll have to lose out on at least some of the other factors: efficiency, noise and grip.
