Pick the right materials and put burst discs in the right places, this might actually work even in a side-on collision with some straight up mad max flaming tanks.

The biggest issue I see is the fuel lines would have to flex with the door, and that tubing will need replacement during the life of the car. That's the much bigger concern: maintenance that is up to the customer. This is also my concern with "self driving" cars. Unless they "self drive" themselves for regular brake service and oil changes, that shit is just going to allow people to skip basic maintenance until it all catches fire.
