“After Massive Public Pressure, Georgia Cops Drop Charges Against 24-Year-Old Who Miscarried”

Sorry. Just needed to rewrite the headline for my own sanity.

[–] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 7 points 1 day ago

Yea that misplaced modifier was a doozy.

[–] BigMikeInAustin@lemmy.world 65 points 2 days ago

And cops keep complaining that the public hates them.

Did they think the arrest would convince all women's bodies to stop doing something that is natural and common, although very sad?

Miscarriages account for around 50% of pregnancies, though some studies put them as high as 75%, since most people don’t realize they’ve miscarried if it’s early enough.

The subhumanity of forced-birthers is unimaginable. Literally. We cannot imagine what state of mind could produce this anti-abortion obsession, because no sane mind would ever do so.

I think the number may change depending on the framing. ~50% of all fertilized eggs fail to implant, in which case the woman would have a regular period. If you count those as miscarriages, I could imagine seeing a number as high as 75%.

A missed implantation is not a pregnancy because it will never cause a positive pregnancy test. The extra 25% is the first 6-8 weeks where you're still in "missed period" territory but most women would not have tested unless they were trying to get pregnant.

Life begins at conception. Therefore, God is the world's most prolific abortionist.

My mother blamed calling it a "spontaneous abortion" for the "confusion" that led my neighbors health insurance company to deny coverage for her miscarriage. Now that I'm older I'm just like no the insurance company just didn't want to pay and found a reason that would hopefully traumatize a woman out of fighting them on it and were backed by a wider society that just hates women in general. Like I've heard people say it's more humane to call it a spontaneous abortion because "miscarriage" implies the woman did something wrong and idt the wording is actually going to manage to make the experience that much less awful but regardless I also don't think the wording was actually the issue in that situation. And the word abortion wouldn't be that stigmatized either if we didn't consider pregnancy as a punishment for sex that must be meted out no matter the circumstances of the sex itself or the physical, emotional, or social safety of the resulting pregnancy.

This is the case we know about, how many others are there?

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 17 points 2 days ago

And everyone is wondering why more people don't want to have children.

George get with the program. Send all women to concentration camps as soon as they get pregnant. /s

24-Year-Old Who Miscarried After Massive Public Pressure

Women need to "just say 'no'" to pressure campaigns. And Massive Public needs to get a different hobby.
