It is sorta funny watching Americans pay gas prices that many parts of the world actually already paid.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We have poor public transit and on average longer commutes. That makes it hurt the average person a lot more

[–] brotundspiele@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Don't forget the absurdly big and fuel-hungry cars.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

That's mostly fueled by cheap fuel (heh) .

Toyota really started to take off in the 70s when oil got bit more expensive.

What's ironic is that for most of America they're paying those amounts on top of government subsidies

Higher quality version

Edit: wtf when I initially looked OP was like 200 pixels and now it's normal resolution

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

seems worse to me if anything. unless OP used to be worse and they switched it

[–] tdawg@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Might be getting compressed by Lemmy

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 2 days ago

Both are perfectly readable to me, Perhaps that other user had some issue that showed him a low-res version. Federation isn't perfect.

Germans would still kill for this price. 7.11 USD/gallon is something like 1.60 EUR/liter. We’re currently way above 2 EUR/liter.

[–] Naz@sh.itjust.works 1 points 20 hours ago

Your mistake was pricing in liters and not gallons ;)

Counterpoint - the US is killing for this price. We've been at war in the middle east the vast majority of my lifetime, in no small part driven by wanting to control access to and profits from oil.

[–] Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Damn, if my maths is right it would be 2.59/l aud, my closest station atm is at 1.80/l and hit a high of 2.30/l

[–] YeahToast@aussie.zone 1 points 2 days ago

For unleaded? Diesel cracked 3 buckeroos in most places

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

Same here in the UK.

[–] call_me_xale@lemmy.zip 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

I call BS - I have never seen gas prices (in the US) that don't end in a "9".

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's allowed if all the digits add up to 9.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

Gas price gematria

[–] vardogor@mander.xyz 12 points 2 days ago

there's a snopes on it for some reason, was just on the sign to promote the store's opening

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I've seen all the other numbers for the least significant digit up here in Canada.

Though $7.11 per L would be crazy.

The 7th-11th son of the 7th-11th son.

Reminded of I Am Legend's premiere, where $6.87 gas got a nervous laugh from the audience.

And then years later we actually hit that price through normal economic trends, and chuds blamed Biden like it was his fault.

And now those same chuds refuse to blame The Idiot for surpassing that price as unambiguous consequences of his warmongering.

I would have preferred the zombies. Even if they do that late-2000s CGI stretchy jaw thing.

The end of days? Or a new color mtn dew? Can't keep these straight.

[–] Hackworth@piefed.ca 7 points 2 days ago

So mote it be.

[–] uzziah0@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

When they were building the station near us this was what they put on the sign until they opened.

Sweet, is this when the dinosaurs come back to life and get revenge on us for using oil?

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago

Why, did they want it?

[–] VicksVaporBBQrub@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We're going to need a reverse Jurassic Park...
Man brings back dinosaur, dinosaur wakes up working on an oil farm, dinos find out they are the oil, dinos help other dinos escape, dinosaur use man's machine to get thumbs. Dinosaurs take back the world.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

And there's the plucky comic relief best friend dino, he put one of his thumbs on backwards (haha) so it always looks like he thumbs-down good ideas.

In the climax our hero makes a big decision. Looks to the plucky best friend. The best friend locks eyes. Moves his dino arm up and -
Gives a thumbs-up

This prophecy sucks, what else ya got?

[–] Kaligalis@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When the slow moon passes the lion's third claw, And the basin of Venus is drained of its tear, The great vessel of men shall split without war, Not by fire, but by silence, shall vanish their fear.

[–] korazail@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What have you done!? You can't just speak the deep truths like that!

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 1 day ago

Oh don't worry, humans are too stupid to understand what that means anyway. People will just ascribe it to Nostradamus or aliens and then make shit up about what it means.

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 2 points 1 day ago

They could move out of California.

The sign says 7 eleven so I am going to gamble on it being there.

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip -2 points 2 days ago

Haha! Aha. Ooh, ouch
