The engineers behind these things need to be heavily blacklisted. “Oh yeah, Justin. He was one of the software engineers behind the garbage truck cameras. Toss his resume in the trash. Erica worked for Flock, toss hers too.”

Employers are already doing this, but I’d love to see it become more prevalent.

You'd have to make engineer a protected title for that and enforce membership and chartership with your locally recognised engineering institutions to allow working under the title. They do that in Queensland Australia. It's not enforced in our other states, which is odd given Queensland is Australia's Florida ..

Getting a job as an engineer in the UK was hard work because every ridiculous job and it's dog was claiming to be an engineering role. The guy terminating a wall socket for your internet connection: telecoms engineer apparently. Rough gig for having burnt 5 years at university ..

I'd like this but for the news. Want to say your broadcast is news? It has to adhere to factual standards then. Otherwise it's entertainment.

    Otherwise it’s entertainment.

Fox and Infowars (as under Alex Jones) already claim this

We have this in the states but the title is Professional Engineer. Which is the best way of going about it because making “Engineer” a protected title on its own makes no sense.

PE is a funny sore spot for me. It’s almost impossible to obtain if you’re not working with other PEs, which is unfortunately the vast majority of engineering roles. I think we have one in my company and he’s in a different state. I have a master’s degree in EE and 15 years working as an RF engineer, but I’ll still see a handful of people saying we’re not real engineers because we’re not holding a PE license we’ll never need.

Why don't we use this surveillance to nail the big companies that are polluting to the wall? (Because we are ruled by the worst among us.)

Will they take a picture before or after the fuckers in the truck somehow manage to fling my cans into the drainage ditch again

Yet another reason to move to the boonies where the only garbage truck is your own beater every couple weeks.

And you accidentally turn a whipped cream container into a steam rocket.

Good news, the flock camera on every corner will be tracking you and looking for any violations with your truck.

And by good, I mean bad.

    Lol. Lmao even.

A flock camera in a rural area will end up like a stop sign in a rural area. Full of bulletholes.

I thought so too. I live in the rural southeast. Those things are at every major intersection and about half of the rest of them.

Maybe the people that don’t mind shooting stuff will learn what they are and take them out. So far the only people I’ve heard about doing that are some kids from one of the local colleges getting arrested for it. Don’t know what happened after that tbh. But most country people are total bootlickers for the cops, as long as they keep the browns out

Okie dokie, guess I'll be installing super bright IR floodlights to maintain my privacy then.

    Fuck your cameras lol

Don't know if it's these "AI cameras", but my garbage company started uploading videos of my "violations" to their portal to justify charging me more (bin was open a few inches a couple times). They have video of them picking up the bin (showing my car plates and house in the back), and also of the bin contents from another camera after they dump it into the truck.

I can only assume they're working on the "threw a non-recyclable item in recycle bin" logic so they can charge more protect the environment.

Wow thank you lol. I'm a native English speaker but I never would have read that headline that way.

I was imagining some bizarre HoA rules that like, fined people for not updating their microwave for daylight savings time or something.

My city has them now. A friend of mine got flagged for overfilled bins. Before it only flagged you if the driver did, and the driver only would if it was egregious. The AI doesn't GAF and reports fucking everything apparently.

I'm very sympathetic to the crap waste people have to deal with but, yeah you can buy a dash cam at wal-mart. Please get that shit off your trucks. You can do it. I mean accidents happen you know. Cameras go missing all the time. I mean you are the waste management experts.
