I like the protected tabs because barring any absurd workspace dimensions I can use the plastic as extra leverage to press down on the tab with.

And I like sliding the Ethernet Foreskin over the terminal after I'm done assembling it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

You've apparently never pulled hundreds of feet of ethernet cable from racks or under raised datacenter floors. Without these, you're replacing that connector once it pops loose from the tangle without a tab

And ideally, never pull out.

If you cut the bottom of the hood halfway, it protects the tab but still squishes to disconnect. I've lost too many tabs to the full circumcision.

Some dumber manufacturers put the reset button right above a port, such that the clip cover can bump it on insertion.

yeah same. I can count on one hand the number of times I've ripped lock tabs off, meanwhile the number of times the stiff protective boot makes it impossible to unclip when it is cold or more than 5yo is easily in the thousands.

Also reterminating a plug with a broken lock tab takes like 5 minutes to cut and crimp.. Or be a real chad and throw a strip of duct tape to hold it in and say fuckit.
