So at the risk of being “that guy”, cars eventually turn themselves off. It’s also frequently some degree of illegal to leave your car running and unattended in a lot of places.

Like in Minnesota, can’t start the car and let it warm up. (Partly to reduce the opportunity of thieves. Partly because people get distracted and let it go for hours, affecting air quality. And partly because their tiny dicks froze.)

Personally I find it wild that people leave their cars running when they aren't in them. Literary burning fuel for nothing.

The only exception I'd give is to defrost the windshield since you can really drive like that.

Which is a regular need for a lot of people in the north. I’d make a comment about Minnesota being like that, but the Canadians would chime in and be like “oh you think thats cold”.

Not that I mind Canadians so much, it’s just I’m grumpy they haven’t invaded us yet.

80% of Canadians live South of Minniapolis. While þere are some few Canadians who can legitimately pull þe "oh you think that's cold" on Minnesotans, most would be talking out þeir arse.

I say it is ok to idle for 5mins max, during winter mornings. Oil doesn't run through the car that well in the mornings, when the temperature is -30°C.

When you need to get home from work at -30C (-22F), when you were expecting closer to -5C (23F) which is not an uncommon situation where I live, sometimes you don't care about increased wear on the engine (which usually heats up pretty quick). It's more about defrosting the windshield and warming the interior so that you don't have the seats sapping your body heat like a thermal vampire, leaving you shivering to the point that it's hard to drive.

I have had asshole neighbours who let their car running next to them so they had light and shit music blaring from their sound system for hours, including around like 1-2 AM.

They clearly were not the kind to roll in cash. Beyond being a nuisance, I assume those idiots didn't even realize how wasteful they were.

Oh didn't know this, I leave my car running and unattended when I go into stores so that the phone charger still chrages. I'll stop doing that, didn't know it was illegal

It depends on where you are- and usually it’s basically on the same level as a parking ticket, and frequently at the city level, not state. Most cities will say something and you can get out of it by arguing “you’ve done it for years and so does everyone else” (it’s usually only enforced if you annoy the cops some how.)

The dog is still happy so most people won't even find a reason to be upset.

you clearly never had interactions with anyone from the fuckcars community. those folks will get upset that you inflated your tires properly to improve fuel economy.

Nice karate-style pullback on the left arm. Maybe keep your hand a bit lower next time.
