Laughs in uBlock Origins
post
well, i ain't watching anything on youtube, that's for sure. i got plenty of 'offline options' to watch.
If you're not using Firefox or a fork of FF with uBlock Origin and still complaining about ads: What's wrong with you?
PSA (I honestly don't know anyone else who does this) the Android version of Firefox supports the uBlock origin extension (among other things) and plays YouTube videos perfectly fine.
I haven't had to watch a single ad on YouTube on my phone for years and well over a decade on any PC or Mac.
There's also LibreTube and Grayjay, which don't show ads at all anyway, and also come with a skip button that turns on for in-video sponsor ads / asking you to like and subscribe.
+1 for Grayjay, not the most user friendly out there, but once you get it setup it's really good!
Because you insist on using Chrome and can't install Ublock Origin and Sponsorblock.
The self-flagellation continues.
Actually I use Waterfox with both, and ProTube on mobile, but sadly that doesn’t work on my shitty Roku TV
Install Downloader (or similar), then use that to find and install SmartTube. It's basically Revanced optimized for TVs.
Wasn't really directed at you, more at the generic user bitching about ads portrayed in the meme.
uBlock Origin Lite blocks YouTube ads just fine, actually
Until Manifest v4 then v5 then v6 which I will bet you a billion dollars I don't have will keep choking out ad blockers
You guys see ads?
You guys still watching youtube?
I tried peertube but there’s no content
Lols in adblocker.
This. Firefox w/ Ublock Origin + SponsorBlock + DeArrow + Enhancer for YouTube on desktop, YouTube Morphe on Android, SmartTubeNext for the TV. I never have to watch a YT ad ever.
Or better yet, use Grayjay. That'll block the ads, and prevent Google from spying on you.
Never heard of it; I'll check it out, thanks.
(Is it like PiHole? Not a fan of that because it does a bad job at blocking anti-adblocking measures, while everything else I mentioned defeats them every time, especially UBO.)
Just be grateful that you don't have to pay for the privilege of watching ads... yet.
Cable TV, I'm looking at you!
Cable TV and some streaming services, I hear.
Most streaming services by now.
Fun fact: if you pay for Amazon Prime Video, most of their catalogue is actually on Freevee (which they own so you can access it through the same TV app) and you get shown an ad every fifteen minutes anyway. And even on the shows that are actually on Prime and don't have midrolls, if you pause the TV show you will see a fullscreen ad instead of a freeze frame until you hit play again (except that there is a handy prompt informing you that if you press OK instead of unpausing you will be taken to a page where you can order the product shown directly from your TV)
I'm on my brother's YT premium.
Realistically its going to be some a small handful of good videos followed by me navigating what seems like an endless ocean of slop, giving up to then stare at my phone and read Lemmy.
