What is going on with the t in still? It almost looks like a cross between a t and an f

I think it's a fake, but I cannot fathom why it would be. There's a tumblr post from a totally separate user with the exact same text barring the weird t, and the @randomuser profiles on twitter and bluesky don't look anything like this one

This is what it sounds like, apparently. Scroll down to Audio sample.

I took some time to learn a whole bunch of consonants from different West African languages for the sake of getting names right while running a D&D game. This one gave me, as a native English speaker, even more trouble than the double-articulated ones

I frequently wind up looking up pronunciations on Wikipedia’s IPA keys just to figure out how some sounds are made, and the description for this one baffled me. I’m so glad when words have a pronunciation audit sample like this one, otherwise I’d never have figured it out

It’s probably some kind of bot, because the post uses the regular “t” elsewhere, and because this (scroll down to audio sample) is what that letter sounds like. No one who regularly uses the word “still” would pronounce it with that consonant.

That’s a good point, I haven’t seen them either lately.

Edit: searched for the þ symbol and found them, sxan@piefed.zip. They’re still active as of today 50 minutes ago.

Poor thing, they're ſtill trying to make ƒetch happen.

Gotta respect them for sticking to their guns though. It's a shame these letters fell out of use, but I'll stick to keeping them in my AD&D world.

Migraine is worse. Go to bed without headache, wake up with splitting headache. Unfortunately relaxation tis a common migraine trigger.

I love how caffeine can both be a trigger and a treatment.

Yeah I use it to prevent, but for one of my offspring (and only one of them) it's a trigger.

But to be fair, the list of potential food triggers the doctor gave me once made me cry, it was literally every food. And also fasting. I'm sure they are trying to help but it always feels like being blamed - you are causing the headaches, just stop doing whatever is causing them!"

Dude. My main migraine triggers were my period, and sleep, relaxing after stress. Not things I could avoid, no matter how much you try to blame it on lifestyle. Menopause plus MHT took care of the main trigger, now it's just that sleep after stress one, much less frequent now, I can often dodge them with some coffee before bed, I guess that keeps everything slightly tense until I wake up, and they don't usually start in the day. Massage only scheduled for mornings, never late in the day. Any cocktail or wine is with supper or earlier never ever ever before bed. Those things do help but don't prevent all of them.

It must be that new Windows 8+ bootloader that saves a snapshot of running processes to "come up faster."

The first time this happened to me reminds me of the first time it took me two full days to get over a hangover. I was like "Motherfucker, what's going on here!?"

What works for me is to pop a bunch of painkillers and drink a bunch of water, then take a nap.

  • source
  • [–] 6 points 2 days ago

For me, I have to do the full Hard Reset. A nap. A shower. Maybe shave something. If that doesn't work, trepanation?

  • No the government would be obligated to sentence you to punishment for having woke up with a headache.

Thus I feel many would choose to not self-report. We'll have black market Tylenol knock-offs which will quickly turn to people dabbling in harder narcotics and eventually fueling an opioid crisis.

Might be a buggy bootloader or memory leak from a background process

That would suck harder’n a black hole. You get a headache, try to sleep it off, fail and then get arrested because you didn’t get rid of your headache. Now you have a headache and you’re in jail! Waking up with a headache should be an effective palliative treatment situation, not a prosecutorial situation

You'd rather your body not tell you that something is wrong?

Oh, that’s bad. You really want your body to tell when you’re injuring yourself. People with no ability to feel pain often have their teeth pulled so they don’t unknowingly chew their own tongues off. You put your hand on a lit stovetop burner, you can’t feel it, and your hand cooks while you wonder what smells so good. You suddenly discover you can’t walk because your legs broke several months ago and you’ve been using them long past when others would have gone to the ER. You suffocate and don’t understand why your vision is fading, and you don’t realize that you’re dying.

While pain can easily be agonizing, not being able to feel pain means you have no way to know that you’re in critical danger.

Okay, but have you considered that I have no health insurance and live in a shithole country that will happily let me suffer and die for being broke? I'd rather feel fine until I keel over than agonize while having to push through. What use is pain I can't do anything to address?

Headaches are most frequently referred pain from neck and scalp muscle spasms.

Yes sometimes headaches are an indicator of something else, but much less often.

I find my headaches are almost always related to either:

    1. Tense back/shoulder muscles;
    2. Lack of sleep; or
    3. Magnesium deficiency.

Obviously YMMV but if you have migraines with no discernible cause, try magnesium oxide. Literally changed my life

And if you're able - exercise. Stronger and more limber muscles are less likely to succumb to discomfort-induced pain. If exercise was a drug, physicians would be giving it to everyone.

And personally, magnesium oxide tends to disagree with my digestive tract, magnesium chelate is the more bioavailable and less irritable version of the supplement (but more expensive).
