millions of people are walking around with chronic viral and bacterial infections and don't know it. Feeling like that isn't just normal aging.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

Huh? Chronic infections? Do you have a source on this? Sounds like things I've heard to get you to buy whatever flavor of snake oil treatment of the week there is.

Most people probably just need to be more active and eat healthier.

Sleep apnea makes you feel hungover. Get checked.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

For me, it’s perimenopause, but good to know.

No reason you can't have both, you lucky girl 😉

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 42 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Congratulations! You are now in your LATE THIRTIES. You have unlocked the following attributes:

  • sleeping “wrong”
  • fatigue
  • interesting medical conditions
  • sore back
  • crushing sense of ennui
  • realization that you’re never going to get the social security you’ve paid into for your whole career
[–] fahfahfahfah@lemmy.billiam.net 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Don’t forget the crushing realization that all your childhood dreams are dead!

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think about this sometimes in the way that if I wanted to start a new career or do something different and I quickly realize im to old to do most things these days... all regular sports have been long gone. Other jobs requiring physical requirements are either over or near the end. I remember seeing the air traffic controller shortage, and they showed the requirements and I laughed and said we'll I couldn't even attempt this if I wanted to since they don't accept people over 31. Lots of options are just gone at this point, and it's sad and scary.

[–] TheDoozer@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

True, a lot of options go away, but not everything. When I was 18, my dad died, and I (the youngest) was an adult, so my mom went back to school and became a nurse. She'd been a school secretary for most of my childhood (and ran a childcare center out of our house prior to that), so it was basically her chance to follow her own career path. She became an Nurse Practitioner, and has been doing that for the past 20 years (she's semi-retired). She turns 70 next year.

[–] Zelaf@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

But wait, I'm only in my mid 20s! It's too early! It shouldn't be happening!

[–] fulcrummed@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Might as well take up drinking…

[–] Oisteink@feddit.nl 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Yeah 2,5 litres of water should be bare daily minimum intake. Start easy, and know that the frequent trips to the loo will slow down once your body has adjusted

[–] exu@feditown.com 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It depends a lot on how physically active you are, but you don't need 2.5l in many cases like office jobs.

[–] Oisteink@feddit.nl 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Correct - you could stay with the shitty feeling. You’d still survive

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

My chipmunk bladder would like to have a word with your claim that the trips slow down over time..

[–] peaceful_world_view@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm way ahead of you....and behind you at the same time.

[–] fulcrummed@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I see you too are a master of quantum super-positioning. Until I spot you.

[–] DJDarren@sopuli.xyz 21 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I'm 44 and am really quite sick of having to be aware of drinking enough water.

Until just a few short years ago I could just crack on and not think about it. If my mouth was dry as Gandhi's flip flops, I'd have a drink, otherwise I wouldn't think about it.

Now I start to feel like shit, and can't figure out why, until I remember that i've only had a pint of water today and could probably stand to drink some more.

It's bullshit.

Gandhi's flip-flops? Fuck that's dry...

Amazing verbiage, fanks!

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Coffee clears that up for me pretty quickly. Like immediately after the first sip. Some say I’m addicted. I say I’m self medicated.

[–] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Turning 40 be like that yo. Honestly can't be anywhere near alcohol as ill feel like crap for 2 days straight after

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So not just me then. Had 3 beers the other night, not sure I even caught a buzz. Felt shitty and off for 2 days after. Fucking blows.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 2 points 22 hours ago

You just need to hydrate a bunch. I drink Gatorade or a ton of water after any alcohol. Obviously if you go out and drink a 12 pack that won't help you but 3 beers in a night should definitely not leave you feeling like crap the next morning.

Actually even if you don't drink you should stay hydrated.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If this is you, try drinking more water.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But then I'm up 3-4 times during the night peeing.

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

Drink it earlier in the day, not all after dinner. I drink a full glass of water when my alarm goes off in the morning, and keep a bottle with me almost always. Add some sliced cucumber or other flavor to convince yourself to take sips throughout the day.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 8 points 2 days ago

god i feel this so much. like trying to push through mud to get thoughts to complete sometimes.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I know. Thanks, me. I'm so dumb I don't even remember creating that account or typing that!

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Drink water, eat healthy, and exercise this will likely go away in a few days to weeks of good habits.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

While I agree that doing all of the above is good for you, it will not take away perimenopause and menopause symptoms.

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

That is true, but a lot of people on this thread talking about their 30s being like this.

[–] HenriVolney@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Might as well going back/starting drinking at your age!

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I did the opposite and stopped drinking a year ago because it was only hurting my health. But I see your logic.

[–] dbtng@eviltoast.org 3 points 2 days ago

Fuk me. You people are hillarious.
A huge chunk of my focus is on holding back the years. Exercise, diet, restraint. It aint easy, and I fail a lot. The humor here hits home.
