    Are we talking about the same guy? The general view on Brandon Sanderson is that he's not an extremely gifted technical writer. He's commonly said to have some of the most basic prose. Like you can like his World building and all that but I mean the writing itself is just about a step above pedestrian really. I don't think that's a contentious Topic at all.

    Nah man. I don't even think hardcore fans are like that. Hell I got like a dozen of his books on my shelf right now and I think his dialogue is downright cringey. Dude is a cookie cutter writer. I've been on his fan forums I've watched his YouTube videos, I never seen nothing like that.

    If you've encountered that kind of person that's not your normal hardcore fan. You've encountered some like hyper psychotic Ultra Fringe group of people. Utterly minute.

    Sorry I should have said Fanboy or something maybe? The people I know who are obsessed with his shit are the same people who are like dude you gotta listen to this band, they're called tool. And I'm like yeah they're cool. Only to find out I apparently just didn't get it.

    (Don't get me wrong, tool is great. But they didn't invent math rock or anything. That's just an example.)

    As far as I understand dude just writes books quickly. I must have missed the groupies. That said I'm sure I'll happen across reading one of his books eventually because I know some are in the genres is enjoy. I remember enjoying Peter V Brett, Karen Miller, and Brent Weeks years back.. and his name seems to fall into those type of schtick

    Lol I have a few friends that hold this guy so high. I've read a few books of his but it wasn't my thing. They insisted I obviously didn't get it.

    I stopped reading after he adopted the whole Cosmere thing. I believe his writing took a turn for the worse after he started trying to tie them all together.

    Bruh they've been connected since the beginning. He wrote like 15 books before one actually got published. One of his unpublished books (which is available for free on his site) has the beginning of it.

    Are you sure it's just it wasn't as edge-lord dark after Mistborn?

    Oh that sounds like a nightmare to make it work and not limit the creation of most new works. This is the first time I've heard about that.

    Shit people like Patrick Rothfuss wrote himself into a corner in only a couple books, attaching series is asking for stumps. Just let works be free and seperate

    Its not building a world, it's merging several worlds and then saying the physics all match up and the magic only works in one way or another while not working in other areas. Dudes got like 80 books or some shit. Unless he was really just using the same stuff over and over which would get tired by the second or third series, I just don't see how it would blend well.

    it sounds like you won't, but I have read everything published and the numerous magic systems all feel very unique, but are based on a very sound central logic

    one of his foundational tenets in writing magic systems is something like exploring the limits of a magic system before you expand it, and he absolutely does that

    mistborn's second trilogy is a perfect example of that, there's not new magic, or at least not much of it, but a remixing of what was in the first trilogy and all of the implications of that remixing was more than enough for the second trilogy
