What in the literal fuck is wrong with Americans and not overthrowing this tyranny? All these laws for this shit, and no balls to see it through.

I’m trying to figure out a way of explaining it, but it’s multiple factors. These aren’t excuses perse but fall into what I would consider “death by a thousand papercuts”

    1. Overall life is still “good” for a lot of people. Does the suck continue to increase? Yes. You notice prices getting higher, so you tighten your belt a little more, but it’s not catastrophic (to you)
    2. The masses still have their bread and circuses. There is still entertainment to keep people distracted
    3. They’re scared of losing their jobs and being out on the street (this is a big one IMO). The US has no functional safety net, unlike other countries. You lose your job, you lose your medical insurance, you might be able to apply for unemployment but that’s only a fraction of what you made. The job market is so bad it may be a year or more before you find something. Couple that with lack of savings due to high prices and it’s an extremely powerful incentive to keep your head down
    4. “It doesn’t affect me” mentality. This is something I see of the American ethos in general and it explains most republican voters. The idea of “rugged individualism” is so ingrained in the American psyche, they don’t understand empathy and don’t care until it happens to them. The US has never gone through a massive attack that affected the whole country (Great Depression is too far gone, and 9/11 was isolated to only part of the county, whereas something like WW2 in Europe affected almost everyone)
    5. ICE (the ghestsopo) is started to disappear even US citizens. Get targeted for speaking out and end up in a concentration camp. Another reason to keep your head down.
    6. The country is huge. Somewhere like France is only a small fraction of the size of US. So it’s easier to congregate and protest. But the distance from Los Angeles to Washington DC is over 3,600 km away. Trying to figure out how to get that far to protest (especially with items 3 and 5) make logistics hard. There were protests across the country for No Kings, but it was so spread out it was diluted.

I could go on with more reasons but I guess what I’m trying to get it is that it’s a perfect storm of being just comfortable enough, coupled with fear of your own wellbeing that keeps people in line.

    You don't understand.

The other option was a woman. A WOMAN.

That's a genuinely tough choice for yanks.

No, you don't understand she wasn't PERFECT on Gaza.

So no one should vote for dems until they're PERFECT on Gaza, since otherwise you'd be uh uh uh supporting genocide! Not voting for her will uh stop the genocide, or something.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but laws become meaningless when no one will enforce them. This is all happening because the US forefathers did not envision a scenario in which all 3 branches of government would be corrupted in the same way at the same time. Terminal cancer, more or less.

No, they did, if a group wins it all, and nobody overthrows them, then they represent what the people want. Actions speak loudest... The people want this.

Try that again but this time make it about Native Americans or Palestinians. Failing to overthrow your oppressors is not tacit approval of their agenda.

... and your continued belief that a document written hundreds of years ago, in a proverbial different world, must have all the possible answers until the universe freezes over

Don't put me in your box. I actually don't have much belief in the constitution. It was written 250 years ago, exclusively by slaveholding white men, and should have been rewritten multiple times by now. In fact, this is what many of those who wrote it intended. However, it is worth recognizing that if the constitution were rewritten in the present political climate, the US would become the corporate Gilead that it is inching toward overnight.

So, if the constitution as it is today is the basis of law, then it should be enforced without prejudice and for everyone, even those charged with enforcing it.

I don't know your background so I can only go by what you post. When you blame it on the lack of foresight of the "forefathers" it sounded like you believed it. I agree it should have been rewritten multiple times by now.

Absolutely and with the brain washed American MAGAtards, they would sign themselves up for slavery if they though, maybe, the people they hate so much will get at least a few more lashes than they will

Well, one is that our current best hope is that the midterms go well and with shaky control of maybe a single branch of government we can start to fix things.

There's no good reason anyone wouldn't wait six weeks to see what happens.

There's still a peaceful way to kick him out. In the midterm elections on November 3, the fascists could lose control of both houses of Congress. If that happens, the orange turd is getting impeached as fast as possible. By spring, if there's no hope of stopping him legally, then we consider stopping him illegally.

    I hope you're right.

However I'm also pretty sure they've been planning for years how to rig this election. And evern if they lose Trump might just as well ignore it like any all the laws he's breaking. Since he controls the cops and the biggest military on earth... who'd be able to hold him accountable?

The laws require the justice system to bring people to trial, and then for appropriate sentences to be handed down and enforced. "Americans" have zero control over the federal judiciary, and little control over state judiciarires, which have slim to zero power to address these national problems.

That is literal bullshit because this is ENTIRE point the 2nd amendment is more important to so many Americans than, well just about anything else in the world

Americans not reacting (and worse, pretending they never had any recourse) is the reason all this shit politicians keep destroying everything... your inaction (in all forms) got you here

The entire point of the 2nd Amendment was to put down slave rebellions. Don't kid yourself into thinking it had some nobler purpose.

Sure, but that's MUCH closer to the stated goal I mentioned "fight of the current fascist regime" than the proposed supposed reason for its existence "to quell slave rebellions"

Your opinion isn't really relevant though. That's just history. That's why the second was written. They are correct. Patrick Henry was trying to derail ratification of the constitution in the Virginia legislature. The second was James Madison's way of getting around Patrick's argument about slave rebellions. That's just historical record. It's cold hard fact. You should look it up.

I would also argue with your contention because actually the wording does suggest safety from a slave Uprising more than your supposed Rebellion against the federal government. I mean look at the wording militia and security. That's not about rebellion. That's about self-defense. About having a standing Force. Because that's the other thing about the Second Amendment it's not about individual gun ownership. That's a modern interpretation

You seem to accept a hermeneutics of innocence towards the US and its ideology, fundamentally. When the constitution talks about the right to bear arms, in a militia, in the context of slave uprisings and settler-empire conflict, it’s actually a far sighted stroke of genius. The founding fathers knew 250 years later suburban dads would need a gun to protect their McMansion from inner city thugs. No, they weren’t coming up with extra-historical wisdom, they, like the many founding philosophers and practitioners of liberalism, were cruel slavers, atrocious exterminators, and elitists who thought they knew best. History doesn’t go away because you close your eyes and ignore it. The constitution or supposed founding values not being applied on so many occasions from lynchings to foreign occupations isn’t because “America is an ongoing project, a living document,” it’s because countries are what they do and who they represent. As opposed to pieces of paper. I have no sympathy for these viewpoints because you immediately drop the hermeneutics of suspicion on any critics of the American nightmare. If in Cuba the churches are empty, religion is being suppressed. If they’re full, people are rejecting their atheistic ideology. Funny how that turns out. American institutionalists keep crying.
