“This is how we should order our lives together,” he said. “And frankly, yes, we are going to impose it upon you. If you don’t like it, I’m sorry, but this is good and right and just if it lines up with God’s standards, and I am going to enforce my morality on you in as much as our morality is God’s morality.”

“You should always check yourselves,” he continued. “Do I believe what God believes? Am I defending what God says is good?”

“And if it is, then you should have the courage to say, ‘This is how we’re going to run our town, this is how we’re going to run our county, this is how we’re going to run our state, and this is how we should run the United States of America by legislating the morality that we can find in the Bible.'”

I have rarely seen a nation further from "christian values" than the United States at this moment.

[–] JennyLaFae@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 32 minutes ago

I'm not christian, but I think my moral values of not committing heinous acts are superior to the Christian values of those acts being ok if you ask sky daddy forgiveness afterwards.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 minute ago

So eating shrimp will be a capital crime?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 37 seconds ago

Religious freaks always claim that their religion gives them a moral center, and atheist have no moral center, and they don't understand why atheists aren't out raping and pillaging all the time.

Or maybe they are, and they're all helping each other hide it. That's it, all the problems in the world are caused by secret atheists with no moral center, not the people starting a multi-faith Holy World War 3 to kick off The Rapture. It's all the Atheists' faults.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 4 minutes ago

This guy is an Atheist, running a scam, as are MOST religious leaders. They absolutely do not believe in God, or any kind of an afterlife, because if they did, they would NEVER support the obviously heinous behavior of MAGA. They would be too defensive of their immortal soul. The fact that they are jumping in with full support of MAGA's obviously, cartoonishly evil agenda, proves who they really are.

Religion is a business, and should be treated like one. There is nothing in the Constitution that gives churches some special benefit. In fact, it literally says that the government should not be supporting any religion. So why does the government support religion by making it tax exempt?

EVERY church should be investigated, and most should be abolished as illegal tax avoidance scams. The rest should be heavily taxed, with the tax revenue earmarked for the public good, not military or law enforcement in any way. It should ALL go into the fund for Social Safety Nets, including universal health care.

And it should also be strongly regulated, with their donations being public record. Tithes should be heavily regulated, and the money fully accounted for. All churches should be operated with the same legal obligations as any other business.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 15 minutes ago

Add this guy to The List.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 2 points 40 minutes ago* (last edited 13 minutes ago)

It will be a small, hollow victory.

But I hope I can hear the MAGAs cry, when they find out "Christian Nation" means they can't get booze and pr0n anymore.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the Earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the Sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you...

Oh, not these values.

Right wing American politics has made a mockery out of Christianity.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

Unironically how these people read that list:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Read: the poor in spirit die first.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Read: We will kill those who mourn

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the Earth.

Read: Once the greenhouse gasses are no longer tolerable. We going to Mars, suckas

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

Read: killing those who oppose me is what is righteous.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Read: we don't even bully the Mexican guy on our squad, he's pretty cool guy

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Read: white

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the Sons of God.

Read: kill those who oppose you until there is no more opposition and you will become Jesus.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Read: God needs me to kill ANTIFA

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

Read: you have my permission to kill the infidels.

Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you...

Read: don't question your mission. You and all your pedo friends can fuck teenage girls or something, after you die for this cause.

...yep. those are them alright.

[–] Jack@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 hours ago

by legislating the morality that we can find in the Bible

"Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor" Mark 10:21

"You cannot serve both God and money." Luke 16:13

"If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also." Matthew 5:39

"Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you," Luke 6:27

Bullshit. Trump or his officials are not Christians. Dictator is cosplaying as christian but is secretly the anti christ

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

If you read revelations it pretty much describes Trump(as the antichrist).

[–] Sisyphe@lemmy.world 2 points 53 minutes ago

If you actually read Revelations you'll be surprised that the word antichrist is nowhere to be found.

[–] Hiro8811@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Christianity has been used to control people for as long as it existed.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 15 points 8 hours ago

In his book, "It Can't Happen Here" (1935), Sinclair Lewis wrote, "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying the cross."

Only look like 80 years but gonna real, I didnt think the anti christ would be soo like obvious about it. Humanity had such a low bar to overcome.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Stop this Obama-era "they go low, we go high" bullshit! It didn't even work in those days, it's just Mitt Romney was both a charisma vacuum, and unlike Trump didn't hide his theocratic ambitions under multiple layers of post-irony.

All this "they're not real christians" bullshit led to is the disappearance of religious criticism, and the right immediately hijacking every talking points on what a "good christian" should look like, to further push their theocratic fascism. Secularism? Now it's a radical christian ideology, because "Obama likes his neighbor", so we have to accept theocratic fascism, because coMmON SeNsE. At worst this is being pushed so much into the extremes, that nowadays people think christianity was the first (!) religion to outlaw murder, pedophilia, etc.

Are islamist terrorists "fake muslims", who probably get drunk every day? Are the hindu extremists of India "fake hindus" for being awful to the muslim population? Was Stalin a "fake atheist" for persecuting the church? FUCK NO! All you're doing is giving an excuse to religious extremists by excluding them from religion the moment they're not adhering to the model religious person stereotype, so the next generation of them can continue the same fucking bullshit, all because "good christian Obama liked his muslim and atheist neighbor", and we continue handling the power of irrationalism to theocratic fascists in the hopes of a second Obama.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

He's right, though. Nothing about what they're doing is even remotely Christian. They've been claiming abortion as their central tenet of Christianity, but the bible doesn't condemn that even once. The bible does tell us thousands of times to help the poor, feed the hungry, etc., but they are strongly against that and see the poor as deserving of that poverty. There are dozens of aspects where they go out of their way to miss the point of Christianity and preach the polar opposite.

They only hijack Christianity as a conservative identity to rally around in order to bind voters to their fundamentally anti-christian cause. Religion to them is a tool for social control, not about honest faith.

And repeating that is important to free believers who fell for their lies. If you allow them to own the label "christian", you allow them to continue to fool people into supporting them. We have to unmask them, show them for who they really are.

[–] CXORA@aussie.zone 1 points 21 minutes ago

The bible doesnt command us to feed the hungry or care for the poor thousands of times. There a handful of times in the new testament where it does so, but pretending the bible is this spotless pro-humanity text is at best ignorant and at worst misinformation.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

"We must allow a theocrat to rise to power, because what if there would be a theocrat that would use my interpretation of christianity, which is about kindness and good things, would rise to power?"🤡

For every "love thy neighbor" quote, there's a quote about violent conversion. For every "pedos must be thrown into the river with a stone tied to them", there's a "menstrual marriage". And while the "turn the other cheek" sounds nice out of context, it was about slaves. These theocrats see you as their literal slaves (!), and I've seen my fair share of alt right shitheads using the full quote to justify their tactic of "we go low, you go high", and then to mock the people who fall for them.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago

I don't know where you got that naive quote, but I completely disagree with that. Theocracy corrupts both religion and politics, and it's important that people see that. They lie and pervert, and that needs to be exposed.

And one vital step in that is to expose their lies, undermine the base they have mislead into supporting them. Don't allow them to keep that.

[–] CXORA@aussie.zone 2 points 7 hours ago

They're absolutely christian. Its just Christianity has many flavours of evil assholes.

Start with Trump I guess? Good luck forcing people into your lifestyle when your own people don't even follow it.

[–] LumberjackRanger@leminal.space 8 points 8 hours ago

How about fuck you? I dont need your book to be a better person than you.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 16 points 12 hours ago

And frankly, yes, we are going to impose it upon you

No, you fucking ARE NOT.

this is how we should run the United States of America by legislating the morality that we can find in the Bible.

You can go ahead and go fuck yourself pal, because this is a secular nation. Besides, the "morality" in the Bible is a horrible model for morality, sorry.

You mean their made up fake Christian values. If an actual Christian saw what these creeps consider Christian values, they'd be very upset. Pretty sure infidelity, bribery, cheating, fraud, name calling, mockery, gambling, false worship, casting out of strangers and all the rest is exactly contradictory to the book they claim to hold in reverence.

[–] azertyfun@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago

As opposed to the traditional catholic values of murdering brown people, burning apostates, progroming Jews, policing every aspect of sexuality, and most importantly enforcing a rigid belief in social hierarchy and the divine rights of nobility?

[–] voidsignal@lemmy.world 32 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

All Christian values are made up, bruh. But I get your point.

Which God? Whose God?

I for one think this man is a literal Devil-worshiper. If your religion leads you to hate, you're worshiping Satan. Gay people exist because God wants gay people to exist. It is the height of hubris to dare to question the will of the Almighty. If God didn't want people to be gay, he wouldn't make gay people.

This man is going to Hell. There he will join his master in the Pit.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 3 points 7 hours ago

Which god? Excuse me! The chaos gods must be served undivided! Trump represents all 4.

Nurgle - i mean forget the health thing. Just look at him next to the greater demon of nurgle.

Slaanesh - not even going there cause that's a book

Tzeentch - the burger lord plans are in and out. Ive never seen anyone with plans that represent the lord of change planning like him. Its like text book.

Khorne - wars for everyone

[–] CXORA@aussie.zone 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

The Christian god. The greatest source of misery and suffering in their own book.

[–] JennyLaFae@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 22 minutes ago

It's part of my theology that the Abrahamic religions have the god/satan roles reversed and it is not the benevolent god-being that they worship, tied up with their whole not speaking his name and no other gods before me stuff. The fascist christians are their truth while the rest are what propaganda calls "useful idiots" providing legitimacy and cover for the bad works.
