The 30-second spot, entitled “Republicans In Your Bathroom,” targets the GOP over its fixation on restricting trans people’s access to restrooms and locker rooms. The ad, which The Hill reports is part of a larger buy worth over $1 million per The Hill, begins with a young girl entering a bathroom and to her horror, encountering an older white-haired man sitting in the stall waiting for her. He greets her with a short hello. Immediately, the girl presses the man for answers, “What are you doing? Who are you?”

“I’m your Republican congressman. Now that we’re in charge, I’m checking to make sure that there’s no trans people in the wrong bathroom,” he says.

Her response: “Bathrooms are private. Don’t you have anything better to do?”

“I won the last election, and this is my priority,” he says, “Now let’s make sure you’re really a girl,” ending with an ominous smirk.

That was astoundingly creepy, well done.

... because it's based in reality.

tf is actually wrong with Republicans? Obsessed with the weirdest stuff, into hurting others and suffering, it's basically the worst possible people you could elect to run a government.

It's not always because they believe the bible, but it is often because they believe the bible. It describes a rapey abuser who can and will torture you to death if you don't blindly obey him, and they call that "love". They do completely backwards, wrong, harmful things while genuinely believing they are in the right.

You know that vague "mandate" they keep talking about? Spoilers, it's from god. That divine being which we have no actual evidence for, no reason to believe its existence, no way of contacting it to verify what it wants. It gives them a blank check to do whatever they want regardless of how many people they hurt.

"But but but! If GOP can't distract you with sexuality and religion, how will they keep critics away from unchecked O&G drilling?"

Ohh don't worry, the Dems will allow drilling too. Is the non-corporate issues they'll roll back to reasonable non-religious values.

Well Dems promote renewables much more than GOP.

More that renewable donors promote Democrats, and Democrats are receptive to these donors in a way Republicans are not

But pop down to Texas, the national leader in Solar and Wind power. Even that doesn't hold up against close inspection

Entirely too much money in renewable and battery tech for either party to ignore

    This is just perfect framing.

Especially the "don't you have anything better to do"?

I was watching donnie supporters (on the Good Liars) claiming that trans is a major concern. They get asked how many trans athletes do they think there are (in NCAA), out of 500K+ athletes.

The answer is less than 10. We are supposed to pretend this is a major concern? Something we need to have all of our policies revolve around? Something that should decide the makeup of Congress? We have to endorse an entire other nexus of fascist bullshit because < 10 trans in something like NCAA??

I know a lot of conservatives seem to struggle with things like literacy and numeracy, but less than 10 divided by greater than 500000 is a vanishingly small percentage.

Also, how many people really cared about women's sports in this country before this became an issue?

It literally used to be a joke among men. ‘Oh, why are you watching women’s sports, is nothing else on’ or ‘haha boobies’ (volleyball and swimming were the worst by far for this). Outside of friends and family of the competitors, former players, and a lot of lesbians there was virtually no interest in it.

It must be a nightmare to suddenly be a forced political issue and it result in everything being worse for everyone.

You don't understand the mind of conservatives. To a rational person, this might read as a non-issue, but to a conservative it's just confirmation bias.

You might view 10 out of 500K as "0.002%"

A conservative views it as "1000% of 'too many'"

Don't try to reason with them, it's a snakepit full of hydras. Just stomp them down at the first available opportunity. Back to tartarus, or wherever fascists hide while they wait for the world to forget

That's it, all we need to do is go past that paper thin veneer that paints the gop as good and decent people and display them for the ghoulish monsters that they really are.

I wouldn't even say this is exaggerated in the slightest. They're vile.

Those people are already so far gone that they're not worth trying to sway. As long as the ad makes independents grossed out by the Redpublicans its done its job

Yeah, the old idea that the Dems have to attract MAGA to their side is stupid, because MAGA is stupid. Nobody needs them on their side. Just focus on the Independents, they can read, have critical thinking skills (that's why they're independent), and they decide EVERY election. Independents are the target.

It's time for America to grow from anti-trans to anti-conservative.

Conservatives are the single greatest threat to all life on earth. If not for conservatives, the normal people would be permitted to address climate change, wealth inequality, healthcare, housing, food scarcity and other existential crises caused by conservatives.

MAGA is a Domestic Terrorist Organization, and a genuine enthusiastic, ongoing National Security Threat. As such, it should be prohibited from existing. We wouldn't allow Al-Qaeda or ISIS to hold office, and MAGA is no different.

    Some demographics watch them.

Other demographics (which have a strong overlap with people who know Lemmy exists) don't watch (or even see) most types of advertising.
