bloodbath

2.6%

Rolling back like 6 months of gains is a bloodbath? Talk about entitled fucking trust fund babies. The rest of us have been experiencing a bloodbath at the supermarket every other week.

2.6% of the entire NASDAQ? Yes these are huge shifts in value.

So someone who had some spare money and bought in to the NASDAQ for $1000 on Jan 1, 2026 now only has $1094.70 instead of the $1123.30 they had yesterday. Cry me a river.

Losing 2% of your body mass either doesn't matter at all or it matters a lot, depending on where and why you lost it.

A general market trend is a concern. 2% of the NASDAQ tanking because it comes specifically from the 10% of it that is wrapped up in vaporware and is heavily leveraged is a crack in the foundations.

This probably isn't the straw people want because they're not concerned about the consequences. It is, however, an objectively huge market correction.

    Honestly, we're screwed either way...

If the bubble doesn't burst, they're going to keep building data-centres everywhere that massively drive up the cost of living everywhere.

If the bubble does burst, these companies are gonna drag the taxpayer down with them, which will likely cause yet another massive recession and drive up the cost of living.

But for a short time the shareholders made a lot of money, and isn't that truly wonderful /s

I can't imagine my company trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube. I get so many ai slop meeting invite agendas, people won't know what to do if they can't auto-generate a word salad for their Teams call.

I think this is kind of beautiful in a way, I have always hated the bullshitting culture that has lead directly into AI, it makes me feel hollow as fuck like when I spend to much time at a big box store.

Let them fumble around with their empty toothpaste tubes and let it all burn down...

Do you think the rest of the world is going to tolerate the artificial inefficiency and dogma of "US" business culture once the world dedollarizes?

In China, the AI bubble has already burst

.... The meltdown, tanking the mainland STAR50 index of AI and semiconductor leaders by 40% in less than four months and vaporising some $480 billion in market value, is an ill omen for wobbly world markets and a dampener on China's efforts at encouraging its savers into stocks to fund the AI boom.

... With AI stocks running to 42% of China's market capitalisation and 57% of turnover across mainland-listed A-shares and Hong Kong's H-shares, according to Goldman Sachs, few in a market dominated by small investors have escaped pain.

... Shares in robot-maker Unitree, 8,000 times oversubscribed by retail buyers at listing, have halved since they started trading in August, and chipmaker CXMT has lost more than a quarter of its value in the past month.

... Chipmakers MetaX Integrated Circuits and Moore Threads Technology, which leapt 700% and 400% respectively on their market debuts last year, have also halved in value since July.

... Frustration that an investment theme backed by Beijing has ended so badly has driven many investors into defensive assets and is likely to slow equity fundraising by tech firms.

A remarkable detail in China, citing the report:

The frenzy and its fallout contrast with a push by authorities to improve returns and dampen volatility by cracking down on leverage and high-frequency trading. State-backed investors were sellers into rallies to keep gains in check.

    [Emphasis mine.]

I'm going to make a bunch of suicide kits and pass them out in silicon valley.

initial concept: 3d printed single shot unrifled plug-in zip guns, and a mini bottle of the saddest booze I can think of. but that doesn't feel silly or sad enough, and still requires expensive bullets. anybody got better ideas?

zip gun selfie stick with a qr code to upload photo/video for humanity to enjoy?

I need input here. what else might go in a suicide kit for tech vc idiots? what is the saddest booze? what kind of bullet is likely to injure but not immediately kill them, and be really funny?

Handgun rounds are almost absurdy cheap. Go with that plan! And for sad go with Mad Dog 20/20.

If you want them to drink it, put mad dog into an old bottle with a worn french labeled bottle with a decades old date of manufacture.

Wine snobs are full of shit, blind taste tests show they don't know what is what, and enjoy it more if they think it's expensive. I don't have that problem with my Ale, I can taste quality, but I'm not an asshole that spends 60k on a bottle of wine.

CO2 works too. There are set ups to keep food from spoiling, or medical bullshit, as oxygen does the damage in many cases. They feed co2 to force out all the oxygen, and if you dip your head in there, you can pass out, and even die.

Some caves too. Also an East African lake does these huge burps of CO2 sometimes that will kill people.

Even better! It's all going on the giant tab that future generations will have to pay. Because that's what they have been doing for 30 years now and it's only mildly inconvenienced everyone so far (meaning the debt interest payments are so huge, they are starting to drown out everything else).

I think thus is very wishful thinking which reflects a society that overly focuses on the proposed importance of big do nothing companies.

Wow Amazon is down two percent and alphabet is down 12... And this is the end of AI?

    I wish. But I don't think so.

While you're right that it's probably a little premature to celebrate, there was still about $1 trillion in market cap for the semiconductor industry wiped out today. So put the champagne on ice and have the party hats and uncorking sabers on standby cuz this is a pretty big portent of future events (also probably prudent to buckle up because this burst is gonna trigger a recession the size of Musk's ego that's going to ruin a fuckload of people's lives. But hey at least the AI bros are suffering along with us, sorta.)

Every time I see a headline like this I check my portfolio and I'm like: down 4%

The bubble is only beginning to pop, if that.
