It's a mentality difference between "I suffered so I will make others suffer" versus "I suffered so I will help others not to suffer".

It's a mentality difference between "I suffered so I will make others suffer" versus "I suffered so I will help others not to suffer".
Not to deride the conclusion. Obviously people that have been emotionally hurt still have capacity for...idk, good?
But the premise is weird. They're positioning themself against the statement "hurt people hurt people" as if people had ever used it as an accusation: "whoa, I didn't know you'd experienced trauma. I'm leaving! You know the old saying 'hurt people hurt people' and I'm not trying to get hurt!"

I always understood the saying as meaning all people who hurt people have been hurt not all people who have been hurt will hurt people. So maybe
hurt people hurt people
instead of
hurt people hurt people
And then there's ICE and CBP agents like "hurt people. Twice. Got it."
