Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

So Anthropic was requesting the DoW to include two (and only two) prohibited uses in their contract:

  • Autonomous killing with no human involvement
  • National, mass surveillance

My understanding was… that’s all Anthropic was asking for, any other use was acceptable. That’s why the deal wasn’t going through.

Now, Anthropic’s contract has ended, and the same day OpenAI is the DoW’s golden child?

Something tells me OpenAI’s contract does not have those prohibited uses in it.

Amodei said in an interview that the DoW altered their contract to appear to compromise, so that it looked like they were allowing Anthropic to have those limits. But that legalese accompanying the updates rendered that text pointless. Basically, "We won't use Claude for domestic surveillance and full automated killing, unless we really want to." My guess is OpenAI signed the exact same contract and just pretended not to understand the distinction.

The world is a dangerous place, so I'll be here to make sure it gets even more dangerous!

Fuck you Sam, burn in hell you Nazi wannabe

[–] teft@piefed.social 20 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Deep respect for safety? When I was in the army they made us do all sorts of wild unsafe shit. And we were worth millions to them via our training. How safe do you think someone who they haven't spent money on will be?

Also the department of war jingoism is fucking annoying. Can't wait until adults are back in charge of the military.

The message is clear: no lives matter (except for the rich)

[–] hector@lemmy.today 2 points 6 days ago

"Adults" in charge. Dumn corrupt piece of shit adults.

[–] MrKoyun@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Some pieces of wood, a rope, and a sharp blade is the solution to all our problems.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 8 points 6 days ago

So full of shit.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Oh no domestic mass surveillance? I don’t believe you…and if I did, you’re still happy to help mass surveillance everywhere else in the world?

Man, I wish I knew how to organize people against these ghouls.

"SWATGPT you killed the wrong person"

"You're absolutely right, that was my bad and I'll do better next time"

[–] CameronDev@programming.dev 55 points 1 week ago

You're absolutely correct, that was the wrong person. Let's try this one...

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 27 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

More like

"You are absolutely right. However in an older version of the field document this person is labelled as a terroist."

"Can you provide me that document?"

"Sorry that document does not seem to exist anymore"

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 7 points 1 week ago

We will build technical safeguards

We all know that 1) they will rush it into use before that and 2) their safeguards don't work

[–] pkjqpg1h@lemmy.zip 28 points 1 week ago

It's impossible to make an AI safe

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 7 points 1 week ago

We will build technical safeguards

after we have unleashed it on the general public and have a clearer picture what to safeguard against.

[–] plateee@piefed.social 51 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And this right here is how Sam Altman survives the AI bubble bursting.

Now they're a part of critical national infrastructure.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

lol, no. their cash burn is still completely unsustainable. Altman himself will be fine when music stops, but the whole endgame with these tech grifters is bagging the US taxpayer (which'll happen when banks start going underwater, and have foreclosed assets they have conveintent buyers already lined up

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 25 points 1 week ago

Exactly. He’d kill his mother if it keeps him employed. There are no principles at OpenAI other than the pursuit of cash.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 50 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sam Altman: "I will gladly kill for money."

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

He will be shown to be more monstrous than the other billionaires, and not just from this. The guy has a fucking screw loose.

[–] OpenHammer6677@lemmy.world 44 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The DOW displayed a deep respect for safety

lmao what

[–] kingofthezyx@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Dude. It's SAFE War. The government promised?

[–] OpenHammer6677@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Is that why they're nuclear bombs? Because they're so small and can't hurt anyone?

[–] kingofthezyx@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago

They're using nuCLEAR weapons because they're trying to be transparent. Otherwise they would be nuopaque weapons.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 1 points 6 days ago

They're using NERF weapons?

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago

The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place.

And you just made it worse. Congratulations.

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

"to achieve the best possible outcome"

For who? Even the people you're murdering?

"Ensure our models behave as they should"

We built a box that says "kill all brown people" and will act shocked that that would be it's solution to everything. It's so SMART!! It MUST just be the case that Muslims are violent and bad. Why else would our AI be so good willing to exterminate village after village?

[–] uridl@feddit.org 10 points 1 week ago

Very important if you do a lot of wa... special military operations

[–] pkjqpg1h@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Why is their name still OpenAI? I really hate to say "OpenAI" I won't say it anymore, any name suggestions? (Except ClosedAI)

Cyberdyne Systems

[–] KraeuterRoy@feddit.org 2 points 6 days ago

Since MechaHitler is already taken, MechaStalin seems to be the next best thing

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 7 points 1 week ago

Just AI: Altman Idiocy

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 6 points 1 week ago

we have expresses our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements.

We want to rule the world with no questions asked. If you want me to believe AI will usher in a new era of peace then why are all the people who are loving it and pushing it absolute warmongers?
