    Uh...

Statistically speaking, Trump-leaning counties were more likely to be heavier users of food stamps since Trump won more counties in total numbers in the 2020 election – 2,585 compared to Biden’s 546 – despite losing both the popular vote and Electoral College votes, since counties that Biden carried were far more populous on average.

Despite his disproportionate support from counties relying more heavily on food stamps, however, Trump still sought to cut as many as 700,000 Americans from receiving the benefits. His plan was blocked by a federal court, and the Biden administration dropped an appeal of the decision shortly after taking office in 2021.

Among the 2,021 counties registering an increase in food stamp use, 78.7 percent favored Trump and only 21.3 percent cast a majority of votes for President Biden, highlighting the disproportionate reliance on food stamps among Republican-leaning counties. Among the 1,107 counties reporting a decrease, 78.9 percent voted for the Republican, while 10.5 percent went for Biden.

Who do you think voted for trump?

In most of those rural counties, everyone is on food stamps.

And because it's almost always state wide standards and they have much lower cost of living than urban areas, they think that don't need it can just sign up and get it, and that it's more than it takes to feed a family.

To justify taking it when they don't need it, they need to invent a "them" who needs it less, then taking the social program they're entitled to becomes a "I'd be stupid not to" and we end up on people poor enough for it thinking they'd be financially better off if it didn't exist.

Like, people shit talk them falling for it all the time, but no one ever stops and talks about why the propaganda works. And how the easiest way to beat it, is give it to fucking everyone.

Fund it plain and directly, and when people file their tax returns have it say "you paid X and you received Y". For the vast amount of Americans that math will always be favorable no matter how many social programs we have.

Eliminate the social security tax cap. Make the tax progressive. Apply the social security tax to capital gains. Do that, and social security will not only be permanently solvent, but we can start incrementally lowering the benefit age until it becomes a UBI program instead of a retirement program.

They report this as "despite", but it is very explicitly intentional. Poisoning people against their own best interests has been a strategy among AnCaps and Conservative Libertarians since the Coolidge Administration.

Young people are told pensions are a form of theft. Old people are told education is a waste of money. Middle income people are told any kind of unemployment relief or public employment is corrupt and misused by some cultural or ethnic other.

As often as not, liberals get fed this toxic stew as conservatives. Which leads liberals to embrace Means Testing over universal programs and to be smug when a conservative state denies something like Medicare expansion rather than fighting for people on the other side of a state line.

Who do you think voted for trump?

How the Hillary Clinton campaign deliberately “elevated” Donald Trump with its “pied piper” strategy

I know so many people who said they voted for Trump in the primary because he was the weakest candidate in the GOP field.

It works because they're stupid. Yes, there's other contributing factors but none of them would matter if they weren't dumb. That's the most fundamental problem at play and they deserve to be mocked for it.

it works because they're stupid, see #3. Then think about #4

These are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity:

    1. Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

    2. The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

    3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

    4. Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

    5. A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.

so you are saying you never saw or experienced any of those assertions to have any validity? it is not stupid to purposefully cause other people harm when it harms yourself, too? stupidity does not cause harm to potentially large groups of people? you know no stupid people who are also successful or charismatic?

I'm convinced that FOX News has been telling people that the word Racist means Vegan or Gay or something.

"That lazy welfare mooch should have been black."

"Woah, are you racist or something?"

"Hell no, I ain't no pansy-ass racist! I just hate people because of the color of their skin!"

The racist shit is just meant to divide the poor. There are more poor white people than black.

There are a whole bunch of historical reasons as to why black families may be more prone to poverty in the US. The system was literally built to ensure that remains true.

Not the person you replied to, but that's not what they said.

They said there's more poor black people than white. Total numbers, not per capita.

    But its also false

I was just trying to add historical context, not make any claims about statistics.

Whatever the rate is, it's worse than it should be for people of color due to hundreds of years of systemic racism that's still built into the system.

This can't be correct. My co-worker tells me that the GOP isn't racist. In fact she has many republican friends who also claim to have at least 1 black friend. Nope I just can't buy this story.

There's hispanic GOP-voters, too. Somehow they seem to think that the GOP only hates the "bad" poors/blacks/hispanics/women, but not them, who are, of course, the "good ones".

Honestly impressive how far the propaganda got, even if the USA somehow gets defeated and occupied like Nazi Germany in 1945, it's going to take a long time to dig US society out of this hole.

Are there any statistics available to see recipients of welfare and how they split across parts of the population?

I bet the majority of wellfare recipients are white and conservative.

    Yes, there definitely are.

From the NYT article about the same thing:

Many of her critics claimed the ad gave a false impression about the demographics of welfare recipients. Yet enrollees of Arkansas’ Medicaid expansion — the focus of the “welfare to work” program — are overwhelmingly white, according to an analysis of data from August that the State Department of Human Services provided to The New York Times. They are slightly more likely to be female than male.

More than 60 percent of the roughly 218,000 Medicaid expansion enrollees in the state reported that they are white, 18 percent reported that they are Black and 16 percent did not report their ethnicity. More than three-quarters of them are between 18 and 49 years of age. Women make up 54 percent of the program’s beneficiaries, according to the data.
